Houses

     Some people lived in a cave. The first houses only had one room. Their house was made of wood. The roof was made of straw. They had a small upstairs. They had good table manners.

Family life

     In the spring the girls sheared wool off sheep. They had to learn how to knit when they were young. The men hunted and raised crops. The families were large. All children had chores. The boys usually learned their father’s trade.

Food

     They ate corn almost every day. Now we eat corn a lot but not as much. They drank beer and water because their water was not always clean. If they lived by the sea they ate lobsters and clams
